Developed Canada’s first 3D Virtual Heart Centre,

Health Innovation

Developed Canada’s first 3D Virtual Heart Centre, Servier Virtual Cardiac Centre (SVCC), which is revolutionizing how doctors detect and treat complex heart conditions.

How they are changing the world

The Servier Virtual Cardiac Centre uses advanced technology to depict the heart in 3D. The lifelike technology improves the medical decision making process for heart diseases, and helps doctors more accurately plan for and predict surgical outcomes.

Why Edmonton?

The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute has become a busy hub for patients, surgeries and information-sharing. Much of the work that is done is not strictly medical and therefore they’re able to collaborate with other disciplines at the University of Alberta, including cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, engineers, computing scientists and mathematicians, and fuse them together for the greater good.

What does the future look like?

Expanding the 3D world into medicine and including virtual technology in everyday operating room procedures. The real life road maps can speed up processes, enhance procedures and care and build knowledge.

“We have created real life road maps for operations. This has the potential to make life much easier for both the doctor and the patient.”
