WCHRI is the only research institute in Canada to focus on both women’s and children’s health, including perinatal health.
Visionary support from the University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation has drawn attention to two under-represented areas in health research: women’s and children’s health. Our researchers are pioneering progress that will impact the health of Albertans for generations to come.
The partnerships WCHRI has are unique and have led to the largest gift in the University of Alberta’s history. The city has world class health care providers and researchers dedicated to advancing knowledge in women’s and children’s health.
Lifelong health and longevity can be improved through early risk assessment, prevention, and intervention (i.e. precision health). By focusing our efforts on health strategies addressing women’s and children’s unique health needs, we will have a tremendous impact on the health of the population as a whole.
“95% survival rate for unborn babies with an abnormally fast heart rate, thanks to research done by members of the institute. Previously, half of babies with the condition died before birth.”
